Created with a submission to the colour white, House of Tranquil exudes serenity and a penchant for detail through its medley of spaces. The home engages textures and subdued hues in a newfound light, bestowing mundane objects with a crafted quality.

The House of Tranquil  is steeped in a heady love affair with a palette headlined by shades of whites, greys, and soothing pastels. Home to the Taurani family, this dwelling is situated in Ghatkopar — an eastern Mumbai suburb that untethers the abode from the bustling nucleus of the metropolitan.

The client brief anchoring the project was resonantly clear; the inhabitant family desired a space that was contemporary in its DNA and doused in a scheme of hues that were subtle and soothing to the eye. The primary design intervention created a subdued overall shell of the residence and layered the space with a keen penchant for detail.

An overruling leitmotif of linearity makes a cameo across the House of Tranquil — it can be seen in the form of wall-panelling surface treatments, printed wallpapers, and installations. This binding feature dots the various segments of the home and imbues it with a cohesive design language which also accentuates its sense of visual volume. Shades of dusty pink, sage green, powder blue, and greys offset the white-toned canvas of the overarching space, injecting it with an elegant nuance of colour that is intentional and restrained.

The principle of ‘less is more’ reigns supreme in the living space. Keeping the monochromatic palette at its heart, a bespoke concrete art installation was conjured for this space which scales a width of 17-feet while hosting an array of vertical flutes in a pattern of progression. Tones of black, white, greys, and tan coalesce in the form of varied textures to create a welcoming ambience. The space is punctuated by handpicked bric-a-brac and indoor greens like the fiddle leaf fig which stands sculpturally by the light-washed windows.

Blurring the threshold amidst the open kitchen and dining area, a bespoke 9-foot-long two-tiered island counter and dining grounds the space adeptly. It melds pragmatism with a multi-functional piece of furniture. The space dabbles in a tactile play of textures and finishes such as stained wood, paint, rattan, brass, and marble that contrast fittingly against the black and sage green tones of the kitchen.

The raised marble counter doubles up as an additional surface while cooking and the cantilevered veneer-clad ledge extends itself out to host the family during meals under the clustered glass globe pendant light. The rattan-back chairs and the jute art add a sense of palpable warmth to the dining space. With its play of heights, the ebony island also has been fitted in with a wine chiller and the brass-inlaid marble knobs embellish the unit effortlessly.

Immersed in an aesthetic that breathes a Pinterest-perfect room into reality, the home office cum den is a versatile space that allows the end-users to work, create and unwind within its calming embrace. Mid-Century Modern silhouettes, hints of greenery, eclectic art, and linear pattern play define the room’s identity.

The dusty pink sofa cum bed is juxtaposed against the striped wallpaper which boasts of a nude pink and white palette above the wainscoting-clad accent wall. Wooden open shelves have been peppered with curated artefacts and are crowned by a duo of elegant wall sconces. The study consists of a sleek wooden desk and a meshed wall shelf which is layered with minimalist prints and greens.

In a ceaseless conversation with monochromes woven in with accents of greys, greens, and wood, the master suite is emblematic of the stated demeanour of the House of Tranquil The sun moves delicately across the space along the course of the day, making it the brightest room in the household. The fluting detail on the focal wall has been interspersed with brass beadings to enunciate a quiet luxury that resides herein. Solid wood posters flank the grey upholstered bed, framing it in focus.

The all-white wardrobe has been embossed with concentric circles around the handlebars, creating a geometric detail. The study nook by the window is an ensemble that marries deep-stained wood, rattan, and highlights of brass to create a corner that exudes timelessness. An olive-green chest of drawers administers the room with a bold yet balanced whiff of colour, tying in with the overall visual grammar of the bedroom.

A powder blue hue swathes the secondary bedroom helmed by a vintage charm. The built-in unit is washed in this soothing hue while marble and brass knobs elevate the character of the cabinetry. Mundane everyday objects around the house have been treated with an artisanal approach, making them pieces of art.

At the House of Tranquil, design details have been effortlessly strung together as spaces mesh into one another. Although each space explores varying design elements, they all are united by the all-embracing vocabulary that pulses through the abode. Representative of the homeowner’s desires, this residence is evocative of what the design studio aspires to create with every home — unparalleled comfort and fervour for minimalist sensibilities.
